Inside St. Paul's church
Built by a Portuguese captain by the name of Duarte Coelho. the chapel was turned by the Dutch into a burial ground for their noble dead and renamed St. Paul's church from the Portugese's 'our lady of the hill'.
Malacca St. Paul's Hill
The Portuguese colonised Melaka from 1511 to 1641. The first thing they did was build a fort overlooking the river, calling it A'Famosa. As Melaka was the centre of struggles between super powers of the time, and suffered the constant threat of attack, the A'Famosa fort was critical in Portugal maintaining its colonial foothold in the Far East.
Built at 1571 by the Portuguese and regularly visited by St Francis Xavier from China. His statue also standing still in the front of this ruins. On top of St. Paul's Hill is the St. Paul's Church, once the prayer house of the Portuguese Catholics, then turned into burial ground for their noble dead by the Dutch.
