Melaka A'Famosa Resort Animal Safari And Cowboy Town

Melaka is a worth destination to visit for families. One of the main attractions that I would like to introduce when you are in Melaka is the famous A'Famosa Resort Animal Safari and its unique Cowboy Town.

Situated on a 1300-acre site in Alor Gajah, surrounded by rolling hills and a lush countryside of Melaka, A'Famosa is a getaway which will leave you totally refreshed and rejuvenated.

One of the best things about A'Famosa is its strategic location off the North-South Highway- just half an hour's drive from historic Melaka city, 45 minutes from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and about an hour from Kuala Lumpur. The resort is also extremely popular with Singaporeans as it only takes two hours by road to go there from the Lion City. An alternative mode of travel is via rail, alighting at the Tampin Railway Station which is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.

Hold tight, as you sit in the caged truck. The Animal Safari is about to begin. Melaka's Animal Safari is the only safari park in Malaysia, where you can see wild animals like tigers, lions and sunbears closed-up in the open as the truck stop right next to them. Barbary sheep, deer, camels, zebras, giraffes and ostriches roam freely in the open. There are also elephant and bird shows to entertain you, to add to the adventure, you can enjoy elephant, camel and pony rides. At the walk through area you will see Tanzanian flamingos, black and white swans, Australian Bennett wallabies, North American raccoons and the Malaysian black and white tapirs. Don't miss the dairy farm that house fluffy chicks, kittens, puppies and ducks.

Only in the evening, Melaka's only Cowboy Town comes alive. There are food outlets serving local and western food, live bands and children's park. At the open area features cowboys and Apaches in stunt acts and trick horse riding. For lasting memory, have your family photo taken at the Digital Photoshop Conner in Cowboy outfit or get your face painted. If you are tired, try treating yourself for a Thai body massage and foot reflexology. Cowboy Town shopping village offers a variety of arts & crafts as souvenirs for you to bring home. Also look out for the magnificent and stunning fireworks displays as it brighten the black sky.

In truth, while the burial ground does date from the period, it is not confirmed that this is the actual grave of the legendary warrior, but it is the idea and inspiration that counts.

The Portuguese colonised Melaka from 1511 to 1641. The first thing they did was build a fort overlooking the river, calling it A'Famosa. As Melaka was the centre of struggles between super powers of the time, and suffered the constant threat of attack, the A'Famosa fort was critical in Portugal maintaining its colonial foothold in the Far East.
Built at 1571 by the Portuguese and regularly visited by St Francis Xavier from China. His statue also standing still in the front of this ruins. On top of St. Paul's Hill is the St. Paul's Church, once the prayer house of the Portuguese Catholics, then turned into burial ground for their noble dead by the Dutch.

Porta de Santiago (A Famosa) - Melaka - Malaysia

Once the site of a Portuguese fortress called A Famosa, all that remains today of the fortress is the entrance gate, which was saved from demolition by Sir Stamford Raffles. When the British East India Company demolished the place, Raffles realized the arch's historical value and saved it. The fort was built in 1512, but the inscription above the arch, "Anno 1607," marks the date when the Dutch overthrew the Portuguese.

Visit Melaka Means Visit Malaysia

Welcome to Melaka!

Founded by Parameswara in 1396 who named his sultanate after the "Melaka" tree, Melaka has provided the stage on which the Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and English played their roles in shaping history.

Melaka's appeal lies in its rich and colourful past. Its 600 years of history is reflected in its ancient buildings, streets, cuisine and unique cultural heritage.

Melaka Malaysia

In the 16th century, Melaka enjoyed a reputation as the foremost maritime trading center. Merchants came from Arabia, China, India and Europe to conduct trade in silk, spices, gold and porcelain. So coveted was Melaka by the European powers that is was ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British until the Federation of Malaya was formed on the 31st August 1957.

Where is Melaka?

Malaysia is situated one to seven degrees north of the equator. The State of Melaka, one of the fourteen states within Malaysia, is situated on the South-Western Coast of Peninsular Malaysia facing the Straits of Melaka and between the states of Negeri Sembilan and Johor. Modern Melaka set on a course of industrial development about 2 decades after independence and its vision to be fully industrialized state by the year 2010.

What can we do in Melaka?

There are many historical sites for us to explore, to list a few, you can visit Porta de Santiago (A'Famosa), The Stadthuys, Christ Church..etc. Also don't miss out Melaka's delicious food like nyonya cendol, chicken rice ball, satay celup and shop for antique items and handicraft at the famous Jonker Street.

Ice Kacang & Cendol

Ice Kacang & Cendol
Originally uploaded by DarthBaBoOn
Ais kacang or ice kacang (Chinese: 红豆冰; pinyin: hóngdòu bing; literally "red bean ice"), is a dessert served in Malaysia and Singapore. It is also popularly known as air batu campur in Malay or ABC for short. The word "air batu", literally meaning "stone water" means ice and "campur" means mixed. It is sweet-tasting and is primarily ice served with sweet flavoured syrup and jelly. The word Kacang is a Malay word for bean, and the word "ais" is a transliteration of the English term "ice".

Formerly, it was made of only shaved ice and red beans. Today, ice kacang generally comes in bright colours, and with different fruit cocktails and dressings. Several varieties have also been introduced which contain aloe vera in some form or another, such as in jelly form. Often, a large serving of attap chee (palm seed), red beans, sweetcorn, grass jelly, cubes of agar agar and cendol form the base. Evaporated milk is drizzled over the mountain of ice. To cater to the palates of the modern customer, some stalls have even introduced novelty toppings like durian, chocolate syrup and ice cream. There are also versions that shun the multi-coloured syrup and are served with just a drizzling of gula melaka syrup instead.

Many South-East Asian coffee shops, hawker centres and food courts offer this dessert. Ais kacang tends to be patronised by tourists and locals alike.
